Make the most of your wardrobe
We are all waiting for the moment when life returns to normal but while you are busy organizing your wardrobe I will share a tip or 2 that might inspire or help you. I love organizing my wardrobe. Last week I found a new place for my gym clothes and organized it according to tops, tights, crop tops, sport bra’s, sport socks and so much more. I love categorizing the things that I have. Then you know what you have and what you can add to your wardrobe when you shop for clothes. This is how I manage my entire wardrobe from winter to summer clothes.
Here is some of the best tips and tricks that I’ve learned over the years:
Know what you have and what you like, before purchasing something new
Something that my mom taught me over the years and it took a lot of practice was to never buy something just because it’s a trend. My mom taught me that it’s important that an item should suit you and what is in your closet. I love quality items and I would rather purchase one item that will last for years instead of 10 items that I would throw out next summer/winter.
Trends doesn’t have to break the bank
Don’t buy something just because it’s “in” right now. Ask yourself if you would still wear this item 2 - 5 years from now. If the answer is no then you’ve got your answer. Purchase something for the long haul that would become a basic piece in your wardrobe, versus a trendy item. It doesn’t have to be expensive but if it suits you and if it’s good quality then you know you are on the right track.
Start with your wardrobe necessities
Having a few beautiful basics in your closet makes it so much easier. If you’ve got the basics you can add accessories according to your budget. Don’t think that you have to buy everything at once. Buy piece by piece here and there and before you know it you will have everything that you need. Read my blog here about my winter wardrobe necessities. In this blog I share a few of my favorite winter basics.
Donate, sell and give away
When you organize your closet it’s important to categorize it according to what you love, what you love but don’t wear and what you don’t like at all/old. If what you don’t like at all is still in a good condition you can sell it or donate it to an organization like Vintage with Love. If you love an item in your closet but it doesn’t suit your style or the items in your closet then it’s most probably time to say goodbye.
The right fit and confidence is key
When you shop for clothes try your best to buy clothes that sit well. You will always feel confident when you dress for the day. If you need a specific item immediately and can only find once piece but it doesn’t sit correctly take the item to be tailored before you wear it.
Find inspiration and have fun when dressing
When you dress in the morning it’s important to enjoy it. Play with color and accessories to make your outfit different and fun.
Fashion is an expression of who you are. It’s how you express yourself daily. Don’t be afraid to be yourself or to mix things up. We have to get dressed every day, make the most of it.
